ISN Volunteer Position Description: Desktop Publisher

Title: ISN Desktop Publisher
Design and create professional looking newsletters, brochures, marketing and fundraising materials to be widely used by ISN representatives, members, and the general public.
Status
This is an open position, until further notice. We particularly need a desktop publisher for our quarterly 6-8 page membership newsletter. Posted 08-21-09.
Location
This position will be managed entirely through e-mail, so candidates may reside anywhere (in any state or country), but they must have their own reliable Internet access.
Position Reports To
ISN Publicity and Public Awareness Director or ISN Chair of Volunteer Services
Language Requirements
Candidate must be able to read and write English at college level.
Position Summary
Design and create professional looking newsletters, brochures, marketing and fundraising materials to be widely used by ISN representatives, members, and the general public.
ISN publications will provide medical, support and public awareness information about scleroderma and other autoimmune diseases, as well as membership and organizational information.
International Scleroderma Network (ISN)
The International Scleroderma Network (ISN) is an international nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency founded in Minnesota. We provide healthcare information and support via our 5,000+ page SCLERO.ORG website in 23 languages. We publish the Voices of Scleroderma book series, and we support international research efforts for scleroderma.
Scleroderma is a rare arthritis/autoimmune disease that is popularly known as the "disease that turns people to stone" because it causes a hardening of the skin, blood vessels and/or internal organs.
Essential Functions
1. Designs and creates professional looking documents, such as newsletters, brochures, business cards, marketing/fundraising materials.
2. Works with ISN Graphic Designer, as necessary, to select or create suitable graphic elements.
3. Proofreads and edits text for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation as well as concise and easy to understand language.
4. Submits prepared documents for the appropriate organizational reviews and approvals.
5. Distributes final documents to various personnel via email for printing or uploading to the ISN website.
General Requirements
1. Disciplined and committed in completing projects within the requested timeframe.
2. Comfortable working in a virtual team environment and in completing revisions until text and graphics meet all criteria for placement on the website or in printed materials.
3. Ability to work within the publishing guidelines of the organization.
4. Exceptional attention to detail.
Qualifications
1. Previous desktop publishing experience in designing documents with professional desktop publishing software.
2. Solid experience with desktop publishing programs such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
3. Demonstrated ability to successfully complete projects within requested timeframes.

5. Ability to use own PC, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, and other commonly used multi-platform software to produce professional-looking documents.
